Notification of a concentration concerning the joint acquisition of the share capital of Africa Internet Holding GmbH by Mobile Telephone Networks Holdings (Pty) Ltd, Millicom International Cellular S.A. and Rocket Internet Holding GmbH

The Commission for the Protection of Competition received a notification by Mobile Telephone Networks Holdings (Pty) Ltd, Millicom International Cellular S.A. and Rocket Internet Holding GmbH in accordance with Section 13 of the Control of Concentrations between Enterprises Law (Number 22(I)/99) in regards to a proposed concentration. The transaction concerns the joint acquisition of the share capital of Africa Internet Holding GmbH by Mobile Telephone Networks Holdings (Pty) Ltd, Millicom International Cellular S.A. and Rocket Internet Holding GmbH.

Africa Internet Holding GmbH is registered under the laws of Germany. The company is active in the eCommerce in different countries of Africa through a portfolio of companies that the company owns indirectly.


Mobile Telephone Networks Holdings (Pty) Ltd is registered under the laws of South Africa. The company is a provider of telecommunication services and is mainly active in the mobile telecommunication services in Africa and the Middle East.

Millicom International Cellular S.A. is a public company registered under the laws of Luxemburg, whose shares are traded on the Stockholm Stock Exchange and offers telecommunication services in different countries in Latin America and Africa.

Investment AB Kinnevik is the main stock owner in Millicom International Cellular S.A. and a stock owner in various companies active in the telecommunication services, in agriculture etc.

Rocket Internet Holding GmbH is registered under the laws of Germany. The company is an Internet incubator and its primary focus is in building proven, transaction-based business models in the online and mobile space.
