The 9th Intergovernmental Conference for the Accession of Cyprus to the European Union held in Luxembourg on the 10th of June 2002 confirmed the provisional closure of the Chapter of Competition Policy.
Amongst others, the E.U, confirmed that with the Protection of Competition Law of 1989, along with the Control of Concentrations Between Undertakings Law of 1999 and the adoption of all the Block Exemptions into our national law satisfy the Cyprus acquis communitaire.
Since then, we have further strengthened our activities in terms of effective implementation and active enforcement of the competition rules and policies. Moreover, the Service of the CPC has been reinforced with additional staff, i.e. lawyers and economists.
Consequently, we may now only insist on withstanding the competitive measures of the internal market resulting from the full application of the acquis upon accession.
