Press Release by the Commission for the Protection of Competition – Dawn raid carried out at the premises of Panicos Theo Hadjigeorgiou & Co Ltd

The Cyprus Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC) decided, as per section 31 of the Protection of Competition Laws of 2008 and 2014 (L.13(I)/2008 and 41(Ι)/2014), to conduct a dawn raid at the premises of Panicos Theo Hadjigeorgiou & Co Ltd.

The dawn raid was conducted following the decision of the CPC to start an ex officio investigation against Panicos Theo Hadjigeorgiou & Co Ltd in relation to the terms and/or prices of supply of equipment and strips for monitory glucose in the blood to the Minister of Finance via public tender and also the terms and/or prices of supply of equipment and strips for monitory glucose to Pharmacists, pharmaceutical stores, the Pancyprian Diabetic Association and/or the consumers, as well as the terms of cooperation with the manufacturing company, in regards to the possible infringement of section 3 and/or 6 of the Protection of Competition Law, and/or Article 101 and/or 102 of the TFEU.

The investigation began on the 29/5/2014 and was completed on the same day.

The Commission wishes to point out that the conduct of an investigation does not indicate by any means that an undertaking is guilty of an infringement of the Protection of Competition Law, but has as its aim to collect all information and evidence deemed necessary, as per the Commission’s powers of investigation for the enforcement of the provisions of the Law.
