Statement of Objections for infringements of the Competition Legislation by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) in relation to charges and cross-subsidies

The Cyprus Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC) by its own initiative and in the framework of an ex officio investigation, which has been recently completed, decided on prima facie and after consideration of the results of the said investigation, that the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has infringed the Protection of Competition Law 207/89, in relation to charges levied and cross-subsidies.

As a result of the above prima facie decision, the Commission for the Protection of Competition has issued a Statement of Objections against the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, which includes the infringements in relation to the Competition Legislation.

The alleged infringements relate to the charges levied on consumers of electricity and the cross-subsidies effected between groups of consumers of electricity.

According to the existing procedures as set out in the Protection of Competition Law 207/89, with the serving of the the Statement of Objections to the EAC, the EAC has been asked by the CPC to present its observations regarding the Statement of Objections.
