CONFERENCE: The Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Cyprus, in cooperation with the University of Cyprus, organizes on 8th of March 2024 the conference titled: “Cyprus Conference on Competition Law: Key Trends and Developments”.

The Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Cyprus, in cooperation with the University of Cyprus, organise on Friday, 8th March 2024, from 8.30am to 4.00pm, the conference titled “Cyprus Conference on Competition Law: Key Trends and Developments”.

The conference aims to bring together lawyers, legal practitioners, academics as well as law students interested in competition law and policy and to provide a comprehensive update on the most important recent developments in the field of competition law.

Distinguished speakers from Cyprus and abroad will participate in the conference and will share their knowledge, experience and expertise, contributing to the exchange of views and scientific dialogue on all recent developments.

The keynote speaker of the conference will be Professor Richard Whish, Emeritus Professor of Law at King’s College London and King’s Counsel Honoris Causa, who will discuss all the latest developments regarding Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU).

The conference will also host the Honorable Judge Ms. Anna Marcoulli, President of the Second Chamber and Judge of the General Court of the European Union who will address the role of the EU courts in the development of competition law.

Furthermore, representatives of the European Commission (DG Competition) as well as legal practitioners will evaluate the European Regulation 1/2003, explain the role of competition law in sustainability agreements as well as analyze the revised Vertical Block Exemption Regulation (VBER).

Trends, challenges, enforcement priorities as well as international cooperation will be the central themes of an interesting discussion among representatives of national competition authorities that will conclude the conference.

The conference, which will be held in the English language, is open to the public with a limited number of seats available.
