Initiation of criminal proceedings against CYTA

The Commission for the Protection of Competition held a meeting on the 30th August 2005, during which it discussed the continued contravention by the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority of its order issued on the 05/07/2005. The Commission decided to forward the case to the Attorney General of the Republic in order to initiate criminal proceedings against the Board of Directors and the Management of CYTA.

The Commission will have a meeting with the Minister of Commerce Industry and Tourism, today at 9.45 a.m., during which it will hand its decision to him.

Following the above meeting, the Commission will meet at 11.00 a.m. with the Minister of Communications and Public Works, who is the relevant authority on matters of telecommunications, in order to hand to him the Commission’s decision.

At 1.00 p.m. the Commission will visit the Attorney General of the Republic to whom it will deliver the case against CYTA in order to proceed with the criminal investigation.

The Commission for the Protection of Competition is committed to the speedy examination and completion of all the pending cases and will have a series of meetings, starting today, in order to ascertain the procedure for concluding these cases as well as to consider all new complaints.
