Two faculty members of the University of Cyprus will give introductory speeches. Associate Professor Nikitas Hatzimihail of the Law Department will deliver a talk on “Private Law and competition policy”. Ms Christiana Sideri, CPC Director, will moderate the event.
Professor Constantinos Christofides will open the conference with welcoming remarks.
As important public institutions, the University and the Commission have a civic duty to engage in public dialogue and contribute to policy debate. In particular, an important aspect of the CPC’s mission is the promotion and cultivation of a viable "competition culture". This event is in line with this mission and can serve as a launch pad for further collaboration between the Commission and the University, especially the Departments of Economics and Law.
The development and consolidation of a “competition culture” in the minds of economic players, consumers, and society in general will clarify the benefits of competition and help cultivate a healthy competitive market environment. Such conditions can enhance economic growth through increased efficiency, productivity, investment, research and innovation, with the overall benefit of increasing economic and social prosperity.
The conference will be held in English and is open to the public.
