The Commission for the Protection of Competition met with the Minister of Commerce Industry and Tourism Mr George Lillikas and the Minister of Communications and Public Works Mr Charis Thrasou to whom it handed its decision to forward the case of the continued contravention by the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority of its order issued on the 05/07/2005 to the Attorney General of the Republic, in order to initiate criminal proceedings against the Board of Directors and the Management of CYTA.

Following the above meetings the Commission held a meeting with the Attorney General of the Republic to whom it handed over the case against CYTA in order to proceed with the criminal investigation.

The Commission for the Protection of Competition met yesterday and examined the changes that have to be made to the legislation so as to comply with Regulation 1/2003 of the European Commission. The Commission will continue its discussion on the subject at next week’s meeting and will also examine the reports submitted to it on investigations conducted by the Service of the Commission.

Due to a change in its composition, the Commission for the Protection of Competition has given instructions to its Service to prepare new reports on the cases examined but not concluded by the Commission in its previous composition.

The next meeting of the Commission will take place on Tuesday 6th September 2005.
