Chairperson΄s Message

We welcome you to the website of the Cyprus Commission for the Protection of Competition.

The Commission for the Protection of Competition (hereinafter the “Commission”) is an independent authority of the Republic of Cyprus, responsible for the harmonious operation of the market within the provisions of competition law.

The Commission is consisted by five members, the Chairperson and four other members who serve under full-time employment contract.

The competencies and powers of the Commission are regulated by both the Control of Concentrations of Enterprises Law 83(Ι)/2014 and the Protection of Competition Law 13(I)/2022. According the Regulation (EC) No 1/2003 of the Council of the European Union, the Commission is the competent competition authority of the Republic of Cyprus for the application of Article 101 and 102 of the Treaty for the Functioning of the European Union.

Additionally, according to the provisions of the Interchange Fee for card-based payment transaction Law 75(I)/2018, the Commission is the competent authority for ensuring the implementation of Articles 6, 8, 9, 10 (1) to (3), 11 and 12 of the Regulation (EU) 2015/571 on interchange fees for card-based payment transactions.

Aiming to make the Commission a prestigious institution that will inspire respect and confidence, we want to assure the visitor that the Commission is working to achieve its goal which is no other than promoting a fair competition environment in the market of Cyprus.

Competition policy also aims to maintain a competitive market structure and encourage economic growth by increasing efficiency, productivity, investment, research, development and innovation, so as to increase the economic and social welfare.
